The Hindus observe various Vratam on auspicious days. The most popular Vratam is Sri Satyanarayana Swamy Vratam followed by Hindu Religion as a routine ritual. Vedas are fruits of Tapasya performed by our Rushi’s (Sage) and Vratam is its extract. Our Vedic Hindu culture is based on Rushi Parampara.
All God and Goddesses are born to Rushi’s. One among them is Swamy Dattayreya being the son of Atri Rushi and Anasuya Mata.
Swamy Dattatreya is known as Avadootha. His family history fell into obscurity and was unknown to devotees. He is called Angha Swamy and his wife is Angha Devi as Avatar of Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi. Their children are Asthamaha Siddhi.
Date of Datta Angha Vratam in 2021:
Datta Angha Vratam is performed on Margashirsha Krishna Asthami (Lunar calendar) and Pushya Krishna Asthami (Solar Calendar). This year, Plavanama falls on 27th December 2021.
History of Datta Angha Vratam:
It is clearly mentioned in Datta Vaibhavam regarding this Vratam. This Vratam is popularised by Karthyaveerajun disciple of Swamy Dattatreya and he is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu holds Shank, Chakra, Gadha, Padmam in his four hands. The name of his chakra is Sudershan. Lord Vishnu killed many demon’s with Sudershan Chakra. The Sudershan Chakra is proud of himself that Lord Vishnu cannot succeed to kill any demon without his presence and he expressed the same before Lord Vishnu. He was cursed to be born as a Human being. Karthyaveerajun is the Avatar of Sudershan Chakra.
Karthyaveerajun was born in the Kshatriya family. He is also called Sahasrarjun. He is a Chakravarthy. He belongs to Lunar Dynasty. He is an adoring disciple of Dattatreya Bhagawan and Kartyaveerajun is also the most lovable disciple to Dattatreya. Guru Paduka was first time given to him by Datta Guru. There onwards, Guru Paduka Pooja started with Kartyaveerya Chakravarthy.
In Kruthayug, Swamy Dattatreya explained about Datta Anagha Vratam to his disciple Karthyaveerajun and he propagated this Vratam among devotees. Later on, in Tretaya Yug Datta Angha Vratam was also performed by King Dasarath and Lord Rama. Based on mythological history Brahma, Nahusha Chakravarthy, Indra Bhagwan, Kartyaveera, and Parushuram are protected by performing Datta Angha Vratam. Now, in Kaliyug, it is a gift to devotees to perform this Vratam. It is popular in South India.
Results of Datta Angha Vratam:
This Vratam results to improve Sowbhagyam (Good marital life) by performing Kumkumarchana to Angha Devi. To get rid of sins, perform Pushparchan to Angha Swamy. To get protection from evil forces, perform Datta Angha Vratam and tie Thoranam (sacred thread) to left hand (women) and right hand (men). To get spiritual blessings, perform this Vratam at least once a year.
