Deepawali/Deepavali/Divali/Diwali November 4th, 2021. Amavasyant: Aswin. Purnimant: Kartika. It is five days celebration, festival, and Pooja of Mahalakshmi Devi. “Shreem” symbol of Lakshmi, power for auspicious occasions. Lakshmi means regain of loss of goal, poverty to prosperity, and imperfectness to perfectness.
Diwali celebration starts with the worship of Cow on Krishna paksha Dwadasi ends on Bhaidooj on Kartika Shukla dvitiya. On the occasion of Gowatsa Dwadashi, the evening cow shed (Goshala) is decorated with Flowers, Rangoli specially Gopaadam is drawn and oil clay lamps are arranged. It is auspicious to perform pooja of Gomata as Lakshmi, the mark of the beginning of Deepavali. In Hindu mythology Cow is called Kamadhenu abode of 33 crores of God. Infract it is evident even today in Srirangam temple, in Tamilnadu popular as bhulokha Vaikuntha an elephant, white horse and black cow (Kapila) have first darshan of Sriranganath Swamy then darshan is open to devotees.
Cow on this day is also worshipped as Surabhi from golokham created by Lord Gopala. The evolution of Surabhi its Mantra and stotra is recited on this day as mentioned in Devi Bhagavatam. On this day some devotees take fast and eat only Bajra kichadi (pearl millet) with curd or Buttermilk. On Dhanteras Dakshinavrat shank, Kuber, Dhanvantari pooja is performed. During the churning of ksheera Sagar along with Lakshmi Mata, Shank, Kuber, Dhanvantari, Kamadhenu, Kalpavriksh, iravath (elephant), Lotus, Kalash, Gems, Indra, and Moon are evaluated. All these are related to Lakshmi Mata.
Gold is purchased to perform Pooja of Lakshmi on Divali. On Dhana trayodashi clay oil lamps are decorated in front of the house, pooja room, offices, and establishments. This day Lakshmi is worshipped as Dhan Lakshmi, Kanka MahaLakshmi, Dandha yakshini, Kanka yakhni and Bhagya Lakshmi. On Chaturdasi before sunrise elderly women take shower and perform Pooja, then family members are offered with Tilak on the forehead, Arathi is given, and apply scented oil on the head. Thereafter along with bath Powder made of ayurvedic herbs is used to take shower. Eating sweets and snacks is compulsory. It is called Rupa Chaturdasi a glory of Satyabhama and she is an Avatar of earth worshipped as Bhulakshmi.
She is renowned for her beauty, wealth, valor, strength, and opulence. With her support, Lord Krishna killed Narakasura on Naraka Chaturdashi. Fascination, peace, and courage towards god Nature and Creature is the beauty of body and soul as Lakshmi. So taking bath with herbs and scented oil is more and more important for beautiful health. Beauty is praised as Soundarya Lakshmi, Sowbhagya Lakshmi, Dairya Lakshmi, Surya Lakshmi, and arogya Lakshmi. There are many variations in regional customs. This year Chaturdashi and Amavasya are on 4th November 2021. Same day Naraka Chaturdasi and Divali are celebrated. After a morning shower, evening Lakshmi is worshipped in every form particularly as Sree Lakshmi with Vishnu and Astha Lakshmi namely Adi Lakshmi, Dhanya Lakshmi, Dhairya Lakshmi, Gaja Lakshmi, Santhana Lakshmi, Vijaya Lakshmi, Vidya Lakshmi, Dhana Lakshmi respectively. Pooja is performed with Sri sukth, in Vrushabha Lagna or in Simha Lagna.
House is decorated with lights, wearing elegant dress and jewelry, a grand celebration with crackers till midnight. It’s a festival for business groups. Lakshmi Pooja makes a smooth way to overcome problems in day-to-day life. The next day phadwa (Pratipada) starts with the opening of a new accounts for business people. It is also Kamala Jayanti, tenth Dasa mahavidya. Lakshmi is worshipped as tantrokth Maha Lakshmi. In the evening Goverdhan Pooja is performed with 56 sweets, puffed rice, and Poha. The last day dvitiya is celebrated by brother and sister. On this day sister invite her brother for meals and In return, the brother gives the gift to Sister.
Bhai Dooj, Bhai Beej, Bhau Beej, Bhai Phone, Bhagini bheej, bhagini hastha bhojanam is brother and sister bonding. It is also Yama Dwitiya, Chandra pooja is performed at the night to honor Yama and Yami siblings of Lord Sun. Vishwakarma God’s architect and his Jayanti are also celebrated. There are four Tantrik Ratri namely Maha Ratri is Mahashivratri, Krura Ratri is Holi, Moha Ratri is Sri Krishna Janmashtami and Kala Ratri is Deepavali all are auspicious for Sadhana and siddhi. Five day festival of lights ends in cheers. Above all women are worshipped as Lakshmi in five forms as a mother on Trayodasi, as Shakthi on Chaturdasi, as wife on Divali, as a daughter on Pratipada, and as Sister on Dwitiya.
