People across India are celebrating one of the liveliest and vibrant festival Navratri. Navrati is a nine-day festival that is celebrated to worship the nine avatars of Goddess Durga. It is believed that worshipping Goddess Durga during Navratri will help her devotees seek salvation. On the fifth day of Navratri, people worship Maa Skandmata who is known to drive all physical pain and suffering.
The legends say that Maa Skandmata, who is also known as ‘Padmasana Devi’, sits on a four-armed Lotus flower. She has four arms and she holds lotuses in two of them. She holds her son Kartikeya in one of her hands and showers blessings from the fourth. It is believed that worshipping Goddess Skandmata will help people solve their differences with their spouse and distress at home.
How to worship Goddess Skandmata during the fifth day of Navratri?
On this day, the devotees wake up early in the morning and take a bath. After bathing, they wear news cloths and use a shallow pan made of clay for the puja. It should be noted that the Goddess’ idol or picture should be placed on a clean table. You can also place Lord Ganesha, Lord Varun, Navagraha and all the other Gods and Goddesses with Maa Skandmata. After this, the devotees use three layers of mud and grain seeds and put them inside the pan, following which they sprinkle water on it. After this, the pot is filled with Ganga jal and five leaves of the mango tree are put in the pot and then it is covered with a coconut.
