Sawan in North India Foremost Shravan month is worshipped to Lord Shiva in North India as South Indians worship during Kartik Month. Devotees on Monday follow fasting and after performing evening Pooja to Lord Shiva with Abhishekam & Mahanaivedyam ends with Shiva mushti which means a handful of raw rice soaked in water offering to Shiva lingam on First Monday.
Likewise, White sesame seeds, whole green Moong dal & lastly flaxseeds follow. Some of them read the story of shivmusthi which is available in the chaturanga Pooja book in Hindi& Marathi. The important point is once Fasting is observed on Monday it has to be followed till the last breath.
Not only this principle to Sawan month but also for any Monday. Another point is no one should initiate another person to observe Fasting on Mondays’, one should observe in his own interest. During Shravan month several auspicious days like Mangala Gouri, Nagapanchami, Varadalakshmi, Raksha Bandhan, Sri. Krishna Janmashtami, Vindhya vasini Jayanthi, Kali Jayanthi Mahalakshmi Jayanthi, Pitori Amavasya are important days.
In some parts of India during Ashada Ekadashi to Kartika Ekadashi well known as Chaturmasa which means four months as Lord Maha Vishnu in Yoga Nidra, therefore Sakthi &Shiva rules universe. During this chaturanga, Brinjal is not offered for naivaidyam and people give up eating.
According to Puranas Dal, Curd, Leafy vegetables are also begotten for consumption to control the increase of Vata in the body. In Telugu States marriages are performed whereas Northside it is not auspicious for marriage.
