Importance of Guru Paduka

 

In Hindu mythology Guru parampara or Lineage of Gurus begin with Sadhashiva who is Guru of Lord Vishnu inturn Lord Vishnu is Guru of Sadashiva.  In this Margashirsha month both Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna are worshipped. Lord Krishna is called Krishnam Vandhe Jagatgurum as he continued Guru shishya relationship.

Importance of Guru Paduka:

Swami Dattatreya continued Guru parampara and first time he started worshipping Guru Paduka. Basing on Advaita Philosophy Adi Sankara charya established four Mathas in India and continued Guru parampara. He is named as Adi Guru.  Likewise Ramakrishna paramahamsa and Swamy Vivekananda carried Guru-shishya tradition.  In Margashirsha month Ayyappa mandala Deeksha is observed.  In this Deeksha Guru and disciple are one and same which means Thatvamasi. Both are called as Ayyappa Swamy.  Devotees touch the feet of Deeksha person and call him as Ayyappa swamy. Therefore worshipping Gurupaduka is most important and is practiced in Hindu religion.

Guru Paduka Pooja Date : Margashirsha Month 2021.

In Plava namasamvatsaram Margashirsha Shukla Divitiya is known as Guru Paduka Siddhi Divas.  It starts on 5th December 2021 from 9.28.A M  to 6th December, 5.55 A .M.   Every year it falls on same thithi. It is prominent to note Guru Paduka is worshipped only in this month.

What is Guru Paduka and pooja:

Guru Paduka is feet of Lineage of Guru made with sandalwood or bark of divine plants or silver or Mercury. On this day disciple perform pooja to Guru Paduka with utmost love, respect and devotion to attain shodasha kala. Lord Krishna is called as Shodasha kalapurusha who got 16 qualities and having auspicious symbols in his feet. After performing pooja Guru Paduka is carried by disciple on his head by chanting mantra of his respective Guruparampara. Gurupaduka stotram is recited. This stotram is writtened by Adi Samkaracharya.  To honor Guru, perform Guru Paduka Pooja and be blessed with Gurukrupa.
